zeroClassikal have confirmed dates for Jonathan Mayer’s 2019 tour of his new work Altered Boundaries, which recently received funding from Arts Council of England and the Radcliffe Trust.
Altered Boundaries is Jonathan’s latest work with zerOclassikal after his innovative commission – Perseverance, which saw him working with drums, piano and keyboards. It is a different concept – of a string quartet using two sitars, sarod & sarangi replacing the traditional violios, viola and cello. Jonathan hopes that Indian instruments playing polyphonic textures will challenge musicians and the very fabric of the genre. “I intend to explore elements that are not present in North Indian music like counterpoint, harmony and ensemble yet keeps the essence of raga which is fundamental”
Jonathan will be joined by Sky Award recipient Jasdeep Singh Degun, Liam Hofmann on sarod and Surjit Singh on sarangi. The tour will premiere at Sage Gateshead on June 14 2019 in association with Gem Arts.
